A Most Anticipated Novel by PopSugar * Crime Reads * Goodreads *A true crime blogger gets more than she bargained for while interviewing the woman acquitted of two cold case slayings in this chilling new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Sun Down Motel. In 1977, Claire Lake, Oregon, was shaken by the Lady Killer Murders: Two men, seemingly randomly, were murdered with the same gun, with strange notes left behind. Beth Greer was the perfect suspect—a rich, eccentric twenty-three-year-old woman, seen fleeing one of the crimes. But she was acquitted, and she retreated to the isolation of her mansion. Oregon, 2017. Shea Collins is a receptionist, but by night, she runs a true crime website, the Book of Cold Cases—a passion fueled by the attempted abduction she escaped as a child. When she meets Beth by chance, Shea asks her for an interview. To Shea’s surprise, Beth says yes. They meet regularly at Beth’s mansion, though Shea is never comfortable there. Items move when she’s not looking, and she could swear she’s seen a girl outside the window. The allure of learning the truth about the case from the smart, charming Beth is too much to resist, but even as they grow closer, Shea senses something isn’t right. Is she making friends with a manipulative murderer, or are there other dangers lurking in the darkness of the Greer house?

**3.5 stars rounded up** this was a solid read. Solid in regards to the writing was strong, the story was strong, the characters were strong. So all this strength makes some sort of solidified solid right? Ok moving on. Even though it was all so good, it felt like there was a little shining light missing from it. A big end of the book gasp! It was straight forward and you knew what was happening but it was told so well that you enjoyed it without the surprise factor. I’m not a big ghostly horror book person but I make exceptions for Simone St. James because she’s just pretty brilliant that she makes you forget you’re even in that category. I mean don’t get me wrong you get the creeps but again, the plot is so engaging you have to keep going and ignore the chilly breathe on your neck that’s the ghost of whoever’s past. Anyway, rant over its good. Read it. The Book of Cold Cases PDF Online Download pdf online This mystery novel has a little bit of everything: two alternating timelines, four murders, two women scarred by their pasts, a haunted house, a kidnapping, and a love story. The premise is Shea, a secretary by day at a doctor’s office and a crime website blogger by night, runs into an infamous woman one day in the doctor’s office. This sixty-ish woman, Beth, was accused in 1977 of killing two random men and was thought to have murdered her father a few years before. The only evidence was one witness who identified Beth as the woman he saw at a murder scene. She was tried, and because the evidence was circumstantial, Beth was exonerated. That didn’t stop the people in the small community from believing she was guilty. Shea seizes the opportunity to talk to Beth to get Beth’s side of the story for her crime website. After some initial rejections, Beth agrees to speak with Shea.Beth lives in the same house, a mansion her father built many years ago. Every night Beth takes sleeping pills to knock herself out. The house is haunted by ghosts. Shea goes to Beth’s house to interview her.Shea has a troubled past also. Like Beth, she is reclusive. Shea doesn’t drive, has just gotten a divorce, and hasn’t ever physically met the private investigator she sometimes consults. Mike, a former policeman, helps Shea track down leads and clues for her true-crime website. Shea’s interest in true crime began when she almost became a murder victim herself. As a young girl, she was kidnapped and forced into a car. Shea narrowly escaped the man, who was eventually caught and imprisoned. The incident has forever marked her, leaving her suspicious, unable to trust, and unwilling to drive a car.In her interview with Beth, Shea learns of their similarities. When she gets up to use the bathroom, she feels like someone is immediately behind her. Then faucets turn on by themselves. She becomes spooked and rapidly leaves. A second interview at the house also has Shea rattled by supernatural events. Shea becomes convinced that Beth may not be the murderer but that she knows a lot more than she is telling. With Mike’s help, Shea becomes more embroiled in gathering information about the murders. Her interest causes someone or something to want her dead. The fast-paced plot held my interest throughout the story. A couple of things detracted from my enjoyment. I was not too fond of the killer’s public name, the Lady Killer. Whenever I read that name, I thought of someone who killed ladies. The second thing was the too detailed description of a character’s clothes. I understand the necessity of putting in a couple of descriptive phrases about attire that reveal someone’s persona. Too much detail, however, interferes with my own image and takes me out of the plot. It’s as if the author doesn’t trust me to visualize the person. For example, twice it was mentioned on a particular day that Beth had on a green blouse, high-waisted pants, and gold hoop earrings. It may just be me, but I thought it didn’t add anything to the scene and broke my momentum. That said, I recommend this book to those looking for a quick read involving buried family secrets and like their mysteries tinged with the supernatural. PDF The Book of Cold Cases pdf online Simone St. James has crafted a complex humdinger of an unsolved cold case. A 29-year-old divorcee named Shea is a receptionist at a doctor's office by day, but at night she turns her attention to her hobby, blogging about cold murder cases. When a vaguely familiar face appears in the doctor's reception area one day, Shea catches that the woman's name is Beth Greer, who just happens to be the small town's most infamous suspected, but not convicted, murderer. The current day action is set in 2017, but the terror-filled rein of The Lady Killer took place in 1977, when two men were gunned down after stopping late at night on dark country roads to help a stranded lady motorist. An eyewitness placed Beth at the scene identifying a car similar to hers and testifying that the woman had red hair, as does Beth. Facing only a circumstantial case, Beth was acquitted by a jury, but in the court of public opinion, she was guilty as sin. She has lived basically as a recluse ever since in her wealthy parents' mansion. Shea is also one who keeps to herself, suffering PTSD from a childhood tragedy that leaves her unwilling to ride in a car. She takes the bus to work and generally goes straight home. When buses aren't running, she walks. She musters up the courage to ask Beth Greer for an interview for her blog. Amazingly, Beth agrees, even though she has turned down many a professional journalist over the years. That is where the action really begins. Shea finds herself chasing down ghosts and fighting against her own fears. St. James' writing got me very interested in the women characters already named, a retired police detective, who never thought Beth did it, but thought she was covering for someone else, and a private detective who assists Shea in her current day sleuthing. The book will keep readers guessing until the unpredictable ending. I love detective stories and would have given this book a five except that I am not particularly a fan of the paranormal aspects of the story. If readers like paranormal activities added into the mix of a spellbinding mystery, then this would be a definite 5! ePUB The Book of Cold Cases fonte Wonderful. Would have given it 5 stars except…it was a ghost story and I’m not into paranormal. It worked, but it was pretty convenient. Anyway, it was good! I’ve just blown off my entire day to finish it.
