It started very different from your usual romance, which I can appreciate. Very strong on the sexy stuff, even a little kinky. I thought it was going to be a DNF for me, but I pressed on. The main female character was a mess, I wanted to slap her. Then it all got switched around, and she got a backbone, and he was a mess. I think the storyline itself was ok and had some interesting potential. The summary provided with this book covers the second half of the book and doesn't address the first half in my opinion.Abby makes a mistake as a young teen that causes Cade's life to go off track for a bit and he is holding a huge grudge and wants to get his revenge. Once you learn the mistake and their ages, I'm inclined to say his reaction is slightly over the top. There's always been an attraction between the two and as adults it's palpable for the most part.Cade is a straight up jerk, not even redeeming really, in the first part of this book and even in parts of the second. I didn't hate him, but I don't think I really liked him either. He just exists in the world of book boyfriends. Abby had her moments of likeability but also was a bit too....wishy washy? Didn't have a backbone? I'm not sure. I just didn't vibe with her till the later half of the book when she was trying to figure out what she wants and she seemed to get it together.I had difficulty with the timeline. I wasn't sure if things were happening over weeks or days at times. Some descriptions are incredibly repetitive. I'm also not sure if it was supposed to be punishing in the beginning or resemble a dom/sub relationship? I'm no expert, but either way, I'm not sure it was realistic and lacked a lot of core components (like trust, respect, discussions, safe words, etc.).Overall, an ok read. I'm willing to try another book by this author. Their history together past & present and all the chaotic craziness in between had me turning the pages. I actually read it twice!!Is it me or do these two seem so real? Loved Abby was a character many of us could relate to. Flaws in one’s eye is perfection is another’s!!Needless to say I loved this book. Excited we meet a few more people.
